Ward 19 Candidate Sean McCormick calls on Mike Layton to stop his joint campaign with accused ‘illegal campaigner’ Chris Bolton

Toronto ON – Today Ward 19 council candidate Sean McCormick has called on rival candidate Mike Layton to immediately stop his joint campaign with TDSB trustee candidate Chris Bolton while he is under investigation by the board for illegal campaigning. Mr. Bolton is under investigation for illegal campaigning after concerns were raised by parents who were sent home with literature promoting his campaign by local school principal Maria Pantalone. Mr. Layton shares literature and lawn signs with Mr Bolton and they have constantly been promoting each other’s candidacies throughout the campaign.

“Mr. Layton needs to do the honourable thing and stop campaigning with Mr. Bolton while this investigation is going on” said McCormick. “Mike needs to prove to the voters of ward 19 that they can trust him, this is a good test of his character as it will show whether he will put the interests of the Ward ahead of the interests of the New Democratic Party.”

So far in this campaign Mike Layton has shown he is not ready to embrace the change Torontonians are looking for. For too long City Hall has been marred with partisan politics that has resulted in a dysfunctional Council and a further disillusioned public. Unless Layton acts by disassociating himself with Bolton he is showing that fighting for the NDP is more important than standing up for the integrity of his ward and the electoral process.

McCormick added “I am confident Mike will do the right thing. We dont agree on much but surely he knows when the time comes to do the right thing.”
